Some days at work leave a person cold -- literally.
That's how it is for John Nettifee, a truck driver for Target, who lost control of his rig and fell into an icy pond.
Today's accident happened around 6:30 a.m., near Monticello, Minn., on Interstate 94 when the truck driven by Nettifee, 35, crossed over lanes of oncoming traffic and skidded onto the pond.
Eric Roeske of the Minnesota State Patrol says the semi slid 100 to 200 yards across the ice before breaking through into the chilly water.
Nettifee crawled to safety across the frozen surface, and was taken to the hospital, treated, and released shortly thereafter.
The freight truck settled in about seven feet of water and workers began removing it in stages from the pond later in the morning. The slipup clogged up traffic on the westbound lane of I-94 for most of the morning, as highway patrol investigators reconstructed the accident.
